Martina De Rossi is the sister of Damiano De Rossi. Giorgio is entrusted to protect her while Damiano wages war to become Don, so while Martina is dealing with her inner demons from the traumatic events of the previous book When She Unravels, she is stuck in a remote Italian Castello with the only man who has made her feel something.
The angst and slow burn of these two is fire! The dynamic between Martina and Giorgio, from the hint of these two in When She Unravels with the added force proximity, had me enjoying the tropes within this story. Though Martina has a little naivety, but she is eighteen turning nineteen in this book, and Giorgio and her age gap make that show through. Without this, I feel like the story wouldn’t have had the same amount of angst and slow burn if she wasn’t like this.
I found that the spice wasn’t as hot as the first book, as I just found the scenes to be a little predictable, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t steamy.
